Public procurement accounts for more than 17% of the EU GDP and in countries like Portugal, more than 60% of economic operators have more than 50% of revenue generated by public contracts. The European Green Deal sets up ambitious targets to promote sustainability and innovation. Also, the approved Facility for Recovery and Resilience requires that any approved project, namely public works, copes with 5 no-harm sustainability tests and so SIPC is quite a critical condition for the effective use of the European funds. Unfortunately, most public contracting has not been carried out according to SIPC.
A new model to select candidates which is a key stage to comply with sustainability standards; New models for innovative public procurement of technological and health services.
This research has been integrated into the main European Research Network including some of the most outstanding European authors: SAPIENS. The head of this research organized annual international conferences about SIPC in Lisbon with the support of the “Academia das Ciências de Lisboa” and two international conferences: Madrid (2019) and Turin (2023).
This research delves into the intriguing realm of brand dynamics, focusing on three interrelated topics: masstige and consumer-brand relationship, antecedents and consequences of brand addiction, and the emergence of human brands. Masstige: The study addresses the concept of masstige, which represents the blend of mass-market accessibility and prestige positioning. Investigating the relationship between masstige and consumer-brand relationship can provide valuable insights into how brands can effectively cater to a wider consumer base while maintaining their aspirational appeal. Brand Addiction: By examining the antecedents and consequences of brand addiction, the study contributes to our understanding of the psychological and emotional drivers that lead consumers to develop strong attachments to specific brands. Human Brands: With the emergence of social media and influencer marketing, human brands have gained prominence in the consumer landscape. Investigating the impact of human brands on consumer perceptions and preferences can provide insights into the effectiveness of leveraging personal brands and influencer endorsements in brand strategies.
The obtained results include new conceptual models to explain the brand dynamics and consumer behaviour.
With its focus on diverse brand categories and consumer segments, this research transcends geographical boundaries, offering insights that are applicable and relevant in various international contexts. By addressing fundamental questions related to brand-consumer dynamics, the research contributes to a deeper understanding of global consumer behaviour trends and market dynamics, thereby informing strategic decision-making processes for businesses operating on a global scale.
The human resources dimension is vital to improving the performance of organizations and in this group its management in relation with the wellbeing and quality of life was studied giving special attention to health organizations. The challenging world of the sustainable fashion markets was also introduced as a starting point for the new plan of activities.
Contribution 3: Better Business Strategies and Results in terms of International Regulations and SDOs. Contribution 4: Human Resources Management to Improve Health and Well-being in Organizations, namely in Healthcare Services.
The obtained results were developed within an international ecosystem including a partnership with several European organizations focusing sustainable and second and fashion markets as well as research institutions promoting the wellbeing in complex organizations as health systems.
The importance of domestic solar water heating systems may be appreciated by the fact that, in 2014, small-scale systems in single family houses contributed to 68 % of the solar thermal energy produced worldwide. Given the rapid population growth, with an explosive increase in energy demand, where infrastructure absorb 40% of the total energy consumption, research into the efficient use of energy and renewable energy sources is a priority. The Renewable Energy and Digital Control research line dwells on the development of fundamental and applied research in the fields of solar water heating systems, from efficiency studies to full automation of water heating systems. The conducted research takes advantage of the latest technologies, machine learning, IoT, experience-based information and, also, the research already carried out by the research group on the efficiency of solar water heating systems, their mathematical modelling as well as results and experience in the fields of applied machine learning.
New results have demonstrated a clearer relationship between collector area and storage and the impact on energy management of solar water heating systems. The research conducted include the development of solar thermal models, which promotes linearity and excludes implicit solutions, for the rapid computation of the long-term performance, tank insulation, thermal losses, and stratification. A physical prototype is being built to test other configurations as well as to support the development of a digitally controlled autonomous energy system. Research results have a strong impact in the efficient use of energy and sustain further efforts in further research developments.
